As an urban brand DEW is inspired by the city. With the urban movements and its architecture. And obviously, its noise. We would like to interview an artist every single month. The first one proves to be Hollands finest House export product: Franky Rizardo.
Franky Rizardo has released a collection of great tracks with his own distinctive style. Building both a relationship with Defected Records and establishing the FLOW concept. We were lucky to interview him.
Franky, how did music shape you?
Since I first came in contact with a music creation program at 14 years old, it’s been an obsession of mine. It’s something I need to do on a regular basis and which I enjoy very much. I sit down and start making whatever I feel like. Not only do I enjoy it, it’s also a way of clearing my head. It’s definitely one of the most important things I enjoy in my life!
How would you describe the Dutch and Belgian club scene to someone who doesn't know anything about it?
A diverse bunch of people enjoying electronic music and dancing as a way to relax, enjoy and be free from worry.
You are pushing a different sound. How did you get in touch with this style and how is it received?
I go to parties myself as well and get inspired and experience different styles of music. I’ve always made music for the dancefloors, and try to keep things interesting for myself in the production process as well. I don’t like to repeat myself too much. I try to not be too focused on how my music is being received. I hope people like it offcourse, but I can only follow my feeling of what I want to make in the moment. To stay true to what I want to make. I’m always changing things up a bit!
Who do you want to reach with your music?
I’m not necessarily focused on a group of people, I just try to create a vibe for the dancefloor. The right song will find the right listener, it’s not up to me to decide! :)
You enjoy doing something, that others do not expect you to do: When and how did you last surprise someone?
My sister lives in Atlanta in the United States. For her birthday I flew out and showed up on her doorstep as a surprise. I’m actually flying there in a few weeks as well to hike a part of the Appalachian Trail. Which i’m looking forward to taking my DEW backpack along with me!
Thank you Franky!
